How can I help?

fDeck is designed, built and supported by me — Darren Yeates — and no one else. Over 10 years in the making, it has always been a labour of love. I built every part of the app myself — there is no development or support team behind the scenes. When you get in touch, you are not talking to a ticket queue or chatbot. You are talking to me, a private pilot who flies from Goodwood Airfield, U.K here in the United Kingdom. I read every message personally, and most issues are sorted with a single reply. Browse the FAQ below, or use the contact form if you are still stuck.

Is fDeck free?

Yes. fDeck is free to download and now completely ad-free. A Premium membership unlocks the Synthetic Vision instrument, monthly database updates, live weather overlays, live TAF/METAR, live ADS-B traffic and TCAS, unlimited user stations and unlimited flight simulation connection beyond the free 15-minute session limit.

How many custom navaids can I create on the free plan?

Free users can create up to 5 user navigation stations. Premium unlocks unlimited user stations.

What is the new Vision instrument?

Vision is a brand-new synthetic vision primary flight display (PFD). It is released as an early-access instrument: 2D mode is available now and 3D mode is coming soon. Vision is available to Premium members.

Can I run fDeck on more than one device?

Yes. You can install fDeck on multiple devices linked to the same Apple ID or Google account. Premium is shared across those devices - use Restore purchases in Settings on each device to unlock Premium.

I have an existing purchase. How do I move this to a new device?

Open fDeck, go to Settings and use the restore purchases option. Premium is tied to your Apple or Google account, so signing in with the same account restores your membership.

How do I cancel my Premium subscription?

Open fDeck, go to Settings and tap Manage subscription. This opens your App Store or Google Play account where you can cancel auto-renewal. Your Premium features remain active until the end of the current billing period.

Can I transfer Premium from iPhone to Android (or vice versa)?

No. Premium purchases are tied to the store where you bought them - Apple App Store or Google Play - and cannot be transferred between platforms. You would need to purchase Premium again on the new platform, or use fDeck on a device matching your original purchase.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, not by Sensorworks directly. Monthly and annual subscriptions are non-refundable except where required by applicable law or store policy. Contact the App Store or Google Play support team if you believe you are entitled to a refund.

Can I use fDeck with my flight simulator?

Yes. fDeck connects to both X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator via the flight simulation connection, turning any phone or tablet into a secondary instrument panel. See the flight sim guide for setup steps.

Do I need Premium to use the flight simulation connection?

No - you can use the flight simulation connection on the free plan, but each session is limited to 15 minutes. Premium unlocks unlimited X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator connections, so you can run as many extra instrument displays as you like for as long as you need.

How do I connect fDeck to X-Plane or Microsoft Flight Simulator?

Open fDeck → Settings → Flight simulation connection. For X-Plane, open Settings → Network → iPHONE, iPAD and EXTERNAL APPS and either broadcast to all mapping apps on the network (multiple devices) or transmit to a single mapping app using the IP address shown in fDeck (one device). For MSFS, install a bridge app on your Windows PC, point it at your device's IP on port 49002 with XGPS and XATT enabled. fDeck connects automatically when data is received.

Is fDeck a replacement for certified instruments?

No. fDeck is intended as a training aid and as supplementary or backup instrumentation. It must never be used as a primary means of navigation or as a substitute for certified aircraft instruments.

Which devices are supported?

fDeck runs on iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets, in both portrait and landscape. For full functionality your device should have GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer and barometer sensors. The app still works with reduced functionality if some sensors are missing.

How do I calibrate the compass?

The Compass instrument uses your device's built-in magnetometer. For the most accurate heading, calibrate by slowly moving your phone or tablet in a figure-8 pattern, away from metal surfaces, chargers and other electronics. In the cockpit, mount the device clear of the panel and avionics where possible - metal and electrical equipment can deflect the reading. If the heading still looks off, repeat the figure-8 calibration on the ground before flight. The Compass instrument also includes a built-in video tutorial with more detail.

Does fDeck work without an internet connection?

Many instruments work offline using your device's sensors - including the attitude indicator, compass, altimeter and chronometer. Features that need live data, such as weather, METAR/TAF, ADS-B traffic, map overlays and monthly database updates, require an internet connection.

How do I export my flight tracks?

fDeck can record your flight path and export it as GPX or KML for sharing or review in other apps. Use the track export feature in the app to save or share a recorded flight.

Where can I learn how to use each instrument?

Every instrument includes a built-in video tutorial. Open any instrument in the app and tap the tutorial button to watch a walkthrough. You can also explore the instruments on our website homepage, where each one links to its tutorial video.
